Originally serving as the auditorium for the old Clovis High School in 1942, the Mercedes Edwards Theatre served as the lone theater performance space for the district for many decades. The space underwent a massive re-model in 1998-1999. It now boasts a 5-story fly loft, a hydraulic orchestra pit, a 750 seat audience capacity that includes 250 balcony seats. The original seat backs were beautifully restored to their original state. The lobby area also received a well-deserved “face lift” and can be used as a concession area as well as for reception events. The “MET” produces five Broadway-style musicals per school year and has been the summer home to CenterStage Clovis Community Theatre.

Clovis Veterans Memorial District was formed on June 11, 1946, to recognize and serve the veterans of the Clovis area. The district boundaries are roughly equivalent to those of the Clovis Unified School District.

The Rex Phebus Veterans Memorial Building near Clovis Ave. and Fifth St. was completed in 1951 as a focal point and activity hub for the district and the Clovis community. The building was renamed in 1984 as the Rex Phebus Veterans Memorial Building, in honor of Phebus and his 30 years of service as district manager. In 2007, the building underwent extensive remodeling and renovation, transforming it into the modern conference center it is today. Throughout the years, the building has hosted events for the Clovis community, from dances and live performances to wedding receptions.
